The event was the first of its kind, bringing together employees of scientific institutions and industrial enterprises from around the world. Participants listened to plenary and brief reports on current trends in modern electrochemical structuring from classical anodizing to plasma electrolytic oxidation (PEO). Hideki Masuda (Tokyo Metropolitan University) and Patrik Schmuki (University of Erlangen Nuremberg), the eminent researchers of anodic oxidation processes, attended the conference.
A bit of statistical information: more than 130 scientists and representatives of industrial enterprises from 26 countries took part in the conference. The conference program comprised 37 oral presentations, including four invited reports, and about 50 poster presentations. The event was organized at the University of Toulouse III (University of Paul Sabatier). Russia was represented not only by MSU scientists Kirill Napolsky (oral report "Control of self-ordering of porous anodic alumina") and Ilya Roslyakov (poster presentation "Tuning the pore ordering in anodic alumina films via symmetry of the Al substrate"), but also researchers from Ufa State Aviation Technical University, who reported on the optimization of the technology of helicopter parts anodizing and the achievements in the PEO process studying. Not by chance, Toulouse has become a gathering place for experts in the field of electrochemical anodic processes. This city is the leader of the European aerospace industry, which cannot be imagined without anodic oxide films. In particular, the main assembly production of the Airbus company, as well as the offices of the French space agency (Center National d'Etudes Spatiales - CNES) and the European aerospace survey system SPOT (Satellite Pour l'Observation de la Terre) are located in Toulouse. The conference participants attended some of these enterprises as part of the sightseeing tours.
